ATO correspondence
What to do when you receive an ATO letter
ATO letters can feel urgent, but the first step is to read the notice carefully, check the deadline, and gather the records connected to the request.
Read the full letter
Check what period is being reviewed, what information is requested, and when the response is due. Bring the whole letter, not just a screenshot of the first page.
Gather connected records
Collect the documents that relate to the issue raised in the letter. The accountant can then review what has been requested and what may still be missing.
Contact the office early
ATO correspondence can be time sensitive. Early review helps avoid rushed responses and gives more time to identify the right supporting documents.
